About Spartan Homes
At Spartan Homes, Inc. we realize that you not only need someone who is an expert in their craft but also has the ear to hear what you are telling us — to better meet your needs and wants in your new home. With 45 years combined experience in the home building industry, we at Spartan Homes, Inc. want to make sure that when you move into your new home it is the home you not only wanted but were able to afford.
Spartan Homes, Inc. is a company that prides itself on their ability to bring the craftsmanship, integrity, and commitment to your new home needs that so many builders seem to be lacking these days. We aren’t just building a house, we are building YOUR home, one of the most of important things you will ever invest in both financially and emotionally.
Eric Henry: My Story
Spartan Homes, Inc. began with a vision shared by myself, Eric Henry, and my longtime friend Ed Cofsky. Our vision: to provide a home building experience you can’t get anywhere else. Every home we build starts with good bones, better standard features, and more customization options. We want every one of our customers to end up with a home they are proud of and will enjoy for a long time.
My Roots
I grew up working in my family’s construction business. My grandfather owned a large masonry company in Northern Virginia which employed my grandmother, father, and uncle. Growing up, if I wasn’t in school, I was working in the business. I started off as a laborer, sometimes running blueprints and learning the business, and how to treat people.
After college, I felt it was my duty to serve my country. I joined the army and spent the late 80’s and early 90’s as an Apache helicopter crew chief during Operation Desert Storm/Desert Shield. After fulfilling my commitment, I returned home and started estimating for a small insurance restoration company.
In my time with the insurance company, I estimated and project-managed thousands of claims ranging from small fix-its to full home rebuilds, remodels, and additions. It wasn’t long until I was running a new branch of my own, helping my employer expand and grow to become a very large company. Eventually, I decided it was time to step out on my own. In 2004 I opened Spartan Homes Inc. My partner Ed handled sales and I handled operations. Ed was our salesman all the way up until he passed. We miss him dearly. He was my best friend, and like a big brother to us all.
Like me, my children have grown up in a construction family. I’m fortunate enough that three of them have found a passion for building custom homes alongside me. With the support of my wife Victoria, my children and I along with my longtime friend, Superintendent Bryan Houff, make up the core of our business. We continue to strive to build good relationships with everyone and at the same time build high-quality dream homes to the exact specifications our clients desire.
The Spartan Name
I grew up watching Kirk Douglas in the movie Spartacus. I have always been enamored by the story of the Spartans. I looked at myself as sort of a Spartan when I was in the military; someone who is self-restrained, focused on the mission, simple, and economical. A regular stoic.
As a company, we apply these ideas to the way we work on homes. Each one of the thousands of little tasks required to build a home is done with calm attention to detail and military precision. Because there are so many little things for our customers to consider, we map out each step to form a complete process. This reduces the amount of stress that goes along with making so many decisions and ensures that nothing is missed during the building process.
Spartan Homes Inc in 2019
Over the last 15 years, we have partnered with hundreds of clients to build their custom dream homes. Our clients come to us for remodels, additions, detached garages, and other small projects as well. Our main focus is always to develop long-lasting relationships that transcend throughout and beyond the building of a home.
When you drive around the Lake Anna area you will see hundreds of Spartan Homes yard signs on existing and completed projects. Some of our customers voluntarily decide to keep their yard signs up even after 13 years of living in their home built by us.
My grandfather always told me to “treat people better than you want to be treated”. In keeping true with tradition we treat every project like we are building Grandma and Grandpa’s house.
“We strive to do what we say and say what we do.” – Eric Henry
